PICTURE: Mertesacker's tribute to Arsene Wenger

Per Mertesacker has published a tribute to the manager who brought him into English football.

Arsene Wenger is about to complete the unique record of 1000 games in charge of Arsenal.

He’ll complete the feat when the Gunners travel to Chelsea this weekend for the lunchtime kick-off on Saturday.

He’s been receiving praise from all sections of the football world and one of his current players, Per Mertesacker, has created a tribute of his own to the boss on Instagram for his 1000th game.

Mertesacker has turned out to be one of Wenger’s best signings, forming a solid partnership with Laurent Koscielny in the Arsenal defence when there was initial scepticism when he first arrived from Werder Bremen in 2011.

It’s impossible to predict how many games Wenger will be in charge for or whether he’ll get close to Fergie’s 26-year record at an English top flight club. However, he deserves every piece of good faith he gets.
