Atletico linked again with Chelsea striker - Will they finally use him to get their man?

Atletico Madrid are keen to bring back Fernando Torres according to reports.

According to The Sun, Diego Simeone’s men are keen on bringing back Fernando Torres – dubbed El Niño – to Spain.

The 29-year-old Spanish international hasn’t been a regular at Stamford Bridge under Jose Mourinho, and has often found himself behind the aging Samuel Eto’o in the striking ranks.

Torres has started 13 Premier League games this season, and his return of just four goals has left Jose Mourinho disappointed – to the extent of publically demanding more from his strikers on a number of occasions.

The Chelsea striker – who cost the blues a whopping £50m in 2011 – could be on his way out of the club this summer, and if recent reports are to be believed, La Liga title-chasers Atletico Madrid are keen to re-sign the striker they once idolised.

Torres began his career at Atletico Madrid, and scored more than 80 goals for the club before moving on to Liverpool.

With the Rojiblancos already acquiring the services of international teammate David Villa, a possible return to Atletico Madrid could reignite one of the greatest strike partnerships this side of the millennium.

For Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, Altetico’s alleged interest in Torres could be his big break needed to sign £32m transfer target Diego Costa.

The Brazilian-born striker – who has a reported £32m release clause - has become hot property as the season has gone on with a number of exceptional performances both in La Liga and in Atletico Madrid’s Champions League campaign.

In 26 La Liga starts, Diego Costa has netted 22 goals. His ratio in the Champions League, however, is far better – netting seven goals in five appearances, helping Atletico to the quarter-final stage.

The likelihood of Atletico Madrid wanting to sell the player outright in the summer is almost non-existent. However, with Thibaut Courtois and Fernando Torres under contract at Stamford Bridge, Jose Mourinho certainly has a few aces in the pack to get his man.

They were however linked with Torres last year, when Chelsea wanted to sign Falcao - and it was an option which went unused by the Blues. Perhaps this time it will be different?

Should Chelsea use Fernando Torres as makeweight to sign Diego Costa?
