Brendan Rogers Press Conference Smiling - 16/02/2014

A round up of the latest news stories and transfer rumours about Liverpool from the past 24 hours.

Brendan Rodgers revealed at his pre-Manchester United press conference that his squad are suffering no fresh injuries with Lucas and Mamadou Sakho staying behind for extra training.

"We're fine. Lucas Leiva and Sakho back in. They actually stayed behind and trained. They both came through the under 21 game fine and trained very well this week," said the boss.

Rodgers also revealed that he's looking forward to the last ten games of the season suggesting Liverpool deserve to be in their current position.

"The last 10 games are going to be exciting. We are there on merit. We have shown we are able to compete."

Daniel Sturridge says the game against Manchester United this weekend won’t define Liverpool’s Premier League title hopes. Liverpool go into the game in second place, looking to close the gap on Chelsea.

“We have got big games, regardless of the Manchester United result, of course we want to do as well as we can in every single game and get maximum points if we can but it is important we keep playing the football we do,” he’s quoted by ITV.

Jordan Henderson has revealed he was never bothered by the criticism of former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson. Ferguson implied in his autobiography that Henderson didn’t have the physical mechanics to play at the highest level.

“What was written in the book never bothered me. To be honest, I looked upon it as a compliment that I got a mention. The fact Alex Ferguson was watching me at some stage must have meant I was doing something right,” he told the Liverpool Echo.

Liverpool youngster Suso wants a new long term contract at the club. The midfielder has been in loan with La Liga side Almeria and has banished any idea of him leaving, saying he wants to work out a new deal to stay at Liverpool for longer.

“It’s a dream to play at Anfield every weekend and in the Champions League, it’s the best option that can happen. I would like to sign a new contract with Liverpool and stay there for many years,” he told the Liverpool Echo.

In transfer news, Liverpool face competition for the signings of Juan Iturbe and Yevhen Konoplyanka. The Daily Mail says three sides from Serie A are looking at Iturbe while French giants Paris Saint-Germain are thought to be interested in Konoplyanka.

In other news, Daniel Sturridge has been named as the Premier League’s Player of the Month for February. Sturridge scored five goals and produced two assists last month for the Anfield side.

Anfield legend Jimmy Case says he expects Brendan Rodgers side to thrash Manchester United at Old Trafford this weekend.

“We’ll beat them this time. Something’s amiss there at the moment – I’d love us to beat them four or five nil,” he told the Liverpool website.
