A round up of the latest news stories and transfer rumours about Chelsea from the past 24 hours.
Ashley Cole will miss two weeks with a knee injury, securing starts for Cesar Azpilicueta at left-back. Cole has been second choice of late and the news confirmed by Jose Mourinho in his press conference is a further blow for his World Cup hopes. David Luiz is also likely to miss the game against Tottenham with an injury, but there is good news relating to their star Belgian.
Attacker Eden Hazard should be fit for Chelsea’s game against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Hazard picked up a knock while away on international duty with Belgium but has revealed he expects to be fit for the important Premier League clash.
The Blues have no other fresh injury concerns to worry about ahead of the game though Jose Mourinho could rotate his side based on those not involved in international games during the week.
In transfer news, Paris Saint-Germain appear to have landed the first blow in the race to sign talented midfielder Paul Pogba. La Gazzetta dello Sport claims Juventus officials flew to France to hear the initial details of a huge €70 million offer from the Ligue One giants.
The Blues continue to be linked with a move for Real Madrid central defender Raphael Varane. Boss Jose Mourinho recently described the Frenchman as the best defender in world football and the Mirror have suggested Chelsea will move for him in the summer.
Another defender the Blues have been linked with, Luke Shaw, is reportedly the subject of a lucrative contract offer from Manchester United. Chelsea have been linked with the teenage left-back as they seek a long term solution for Ashley Cole in the senior side.
In other reports, Chelsea will have to go up against Arsenal if they want to sign Mario Balotelli. Mourinho recently refused to rule out the possibility of going after the Italian in the summer.
“Balotelli is with a big club at the moment but you never know the future – he's a good kid and somebody I'd like to work with again,” said the boss.
