“Below-average” Mourinho slammed by Real Madrid legend

Jorge Valdano has criticised the current Chelsea boss for his time with the Spanish giants.

Jose Mourinho has a record of success at al the clubs that he has managed, but arguably his toughest period in management came at Real Madrid.

The Portuguese coach won a La Liga title and Copa del Rey, but failed to deliver the La Decima Champions League crown that the Santiago Bernabeu club craves.

Mourinho’s time in the Spanish capital was characterised by power struggles, with the Chelsea boss clashing with director of football Jorge Valdano.

The Argentine, who both played and managed Madrid, has been critical of Mourinho’s time in Spain.

“Jose Mourinho's spell in charge of Real Madrid was below the historical average for the club,” the South American is quoted as saying by Marca.

Although Diego Simeone’s men are keen to keep him on a permanent basis, Real Madrid have been accredited with an interest in Courtois also of late.

The Chelsea man has spoken out about rumours linking him with a switch to Los Blancos, and admitted he was in the dark over his future.

“I’ve never heard of that,” Courtois told apasciuto
