While Arsenal remain constantly linked with trying to sign Schalke’s Julian Draxler, there is already a next wave in the Bundesliga of promising young players, including a defender wanted by Manchester City.
Here is a list of the Top 10, part one 10-6.
10. Julian Green (18-years-old, Bayern Munich)
This attacking midfielder was born in the United States and came to Germany when he was two years old. 15 goals in 18 matches with Bayern’s second team in Germany’s fourth league is his season’s tally so far. This convinced Bayern recently to give him a contract until June 2018. Until now he hasn’t decided yet for which national team he wants to play, although Klinsmann is already trying really hard to convince him to play for the US-team.
9. Julian Brandt (17-years-old, Bayer Leverkusen)
Despite competing with Chelsea and Bayern for this midfielder, Leverkusen managed to sign Brandt in the winter break from Wolfsburg for the next five years. He gave his debut during Leverkusen’s defeat against PSG in the Champions League last week, and was already the best player of his team in that match. Many experts consider him to be one of the biggest playmaking talents in Germany right now.
8. Jonathan Tah (17-years-old, Hamburger SV)
This athletic central defender is the current captain of Germany’s under-17 national team and until now one of the few positive surprises of an overall disappointing HSV this season. He is a permanent starter in Hamburg and Manchester City are supposed to be highly interested in purchasing him for the next season.
7. Maximilian Arnold (19-years-old, VFL Wolfsburg)
This attacking talent has already scored 9 goals in this season so far and is the reason why the fans in Wolfsburg don’t miss Diego any more, who had left to Spain in January. Arsenal and Juventus are said to be courting the flexible midfielder, who can leave the club in the summer for a fixed amount of 9.7 million Euros.
6. Leon Goretzka (18-years-old, Schalke 04)
This highly gifted youngster drew attention to himself after scoring an amazing goal against Leverkusen two weeks ago. Expectations for the player, who came last summer from second division’s team Bochum to Schalke, couldn’t be higher as his former coach in Bochum called him “the talent of the century”. If he continues like that he will get a lot more chances to show if his former coach was right about him.
