Has Gerrard just been given another new role that could help Liverpool win the title?

Steven Gerrard was seen in the crowd watching Manchester City play Barcelona on Tuesday evening. But was it a night out or a scouting mission?

All eyes – or at least most of them – were on Manchester City’s Champions League match against Barcelona last night; and that included those of Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard who was pictured in the crowd at the Etihad Stadium.

It has led the Express to ponder if the England midfielder has been given yet another new role by Brendan Rodgers – this time as a scout.

But that suggestion may not be as bizarre as first thought.

After all, Liverpool are enjoying a fine season and have a real chance of ending it with Premier League glory if they can maintain their current form. But if they are to do so, they will have to overcome City, Chelsea and Arsenal.

With the Reds facing Manuel Pellegrini's men on Saturday 12 April, Gerrard may have been taking a closer look at the men his own team will have to get the better of if they want to hold the title aloft come May.

Of course he could have simply been enjoying himself, taking in the match like so many others did. But if Gerrard is seen in the crowd at Stamford Bridge in the coming weeks, it may be wise to check if he has a notebook with him.
