The post apocalyptic hit game the Last of us may get a sequel after all.
Ahead of Left Behind (DLC for The Last Of Us) coming out this week Naughty dog, hints that a follow-up is not out of the question.
In an interview with Eurogamer writer Neil Druckmann mentioned, "We have started brainstorming some stuff. To be honest, some of them are sequel ideas."
Naughty dog have previously deflected calls for a Last Of Us sequel, holding that the story between main protagonists Ellie and Joel is over, though receiving a bin load of awards for the game may serve to sway them.
Druckmann also said, "It's kind of like how we approached Left Behind. Can we tell people a story that's really worth telling, and that's not repeating itself? And if we can't, where can we get inspired - what is something that's really going to challenge us, and push storytelling in this medium forward?"
This gives some reassurance that if we do see Last Of Us 2 then it's storyline should take a fresh direction. Unlike the ongoing Uncharted series,The Last of Us has such a well-contained plot that a sequel would have to do well to equal it artistically although it’s bound to see good sales regardless.
For fans of Naughty Dog's cinematic masterpiece Left Behind, the first and only DLC for Last Of Us comes out on Feb 14 and follows Ellie’s back-story.
With Naughty Dog looking to test the waters to, "have a feel of where the demand is" there's a sense that should the DLC and rumoured PS4 port for the game succeed then we may well get to see what happens next.
