Who were Liverpool and Man City scouts watching at youth tournament?

Liverpool and Manchester City scouts were reportedly spotted at the Viareggio Cup watching Hellas Verona rising star Mohamed Fares.

The Viareggio Cup is a famed competition for youth players and also a great scouting opportunity for Europe's biggest clubs.

Last year's competition was won by Belgian side Anderlecht, beating AC Milan in the final. The Rossoneri had seen off Newcastle United in the group stage, winning 2-1 to secure top spot.

This is the 66th year of the event held in Viareggio, Tuscany, and there are eight Italian teams taking part, including Hellas Verona.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Liverpool and Manchester City representatives were present at Verona's game against American side L.I.A.C. New York yesterday.

The website believes that the scouts were keeping an eye on 17-year-old midfielder Mohamed Fares.

The Algerian-French starlet has been outstanding for Verona's Primavera youth team and has scored three goals in 13 games for them as well as an impressive tally of assists.

Verona secured a resounding 10-2 win over L.I.A.C. New York. Fares provided one assist but didn't find the net.

The Mastini have much tougher tests ahead against Dutch side PSV Eindhoven and Empoli.
