Lowly Serie A side Catania have axed Luigi De Canio after last night's Coppa Italia humiliation at the hands of second tier Siena.
Catania's 4-1 thrashing against Serie B Siena proved to be the final straw for coach Luigi De Canio, who has been sacked and will be replaced by former boss Rolando Maran.
De Canio only lasted 11 games on the Catania bench after coming in for Maran on October 20 with the Elefanti stuttering.
The ex-Queens Park Rangers manager failed to turn the Sicilian side's fortunes around and they are currently propping up the Serie A table and have a relegation battle ahead of them.
Maran is ready to return to his old job in time to take on high-flying Fiorentina at the weekend - a game that Catania are outsiders to win.
