Despite injury concerns blighting Brendan Rodgers’ squad, one important player is on the verge of a return.

Liverpool have been hit with injuries to key players over the festive season, but it appears that one Reds star could be on the verge of a return to action.

Daniel Sturridge is pictured at training below, and looks set to make an early recovery for the Anfield club.

The England international started the season in excellent goalscoring form, netting nine Premier League goals, but suffered an ankle injury in November.

The early prognosis was that the former Chelsea attacker could well be on the sidelines for up to 12 weeks, but it looks like he will return sooner than that.

Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Sturridge could even be available for the game against Stoke on January 12.

“We will assess that in the next 24 hours. By the Stoke game we'll have a number of the others who will not be too far away,” the Northern Irish manager said.

"Daniel is ahead of schedule. He might not be too far over the next few weeks. He was out running the other day doing straight-line running and he is now doing more multi-directional running and then training next week and he will have a good week of training.

However, the visiting manager was left complaining about controversial refereeing decisions, as his side could well have had a penalty in the final minutes of the clash in west London.

With the Anfield outfit desperate to get a goal to tie things up, Luis Suarez went down under a challenge from Samuel Eto’o close to the end of the clash.
