Liverpool transfer news: Salah deal close, injury boost for Reds

Some of the key stories surrounding Liverpool Football Club this Tuesday morning.

Liverpool are confident of landing Basel playmaker Mohamed Salah early on in the January transfer window according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

Salah impressed for the Swiss side in the Champions League group stages against Chelsea, and the report says the Reds have been tracking the Egyptian for several months.

With Liverpool’s injury list growing over the Christmas period, the 21-year-old could be a welcome addition to Brendan Rodgers’ side.

The Reds could have a welcome injury boost to the squad with the return of captain Steven Gerrard to the starting line-up against Hull City, with Daniel Sturridge also close to returning.

Rodgers said: ‘Daniel may not be too far over the next few weeks.

‘He was out running the other day doing straight line running and he is now doing more multi-directional running and then training next week and he will have a good week of training.’

Similar to the way in which Jordan Henderson had to win over the Liverpool supporters, Allen has had the same hardships and seemingly come out the other end a better player.

Now, with Allen set to be absent for a couple of weeks with injury, Liverpool fans will miss the midfielder that was once a source for disdain on Anfield.

Rodgers is quoted as saying at yesterday’s press conference: ‘This is the first time anyone has criticised him for that this season and, I repeat, he can be an easy target sometimes. He has a strong mentality and it does not worry him at all.’
