How Arsenal, Liverpool could stop Leeds signing former winger

Leeds United want to re-sign Max Gradel, but Liverpool or Arsenal could inadvertently throw a spanner in the works.

Former Leeds United winger Max Gradel is back from injury and in the goals for St Etienne, and his old side have been strongly linked with bringing him back.

With the Championship side well placed for a play-off push with a few solid improvements, manager Brian McDermott and star striker Ross McCormack both talking up the prospect of Gradel making a return.

There may be a challenge for his signature however, in the form of Bundesliga club Hoffenheim.

The Mail report the Germans are keen to sign Gradel, but it depends on one thing, their own star winger Kevin Volland.

Volland has scored seven goals in 15 games from the wing this season, and has attracted the attentions of both Liverpool and Arsenal reported The Mirror at the weekend, with Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund also linked.

Rated at £12 million, the German under-21 international looks primed for a January move especially as he is not cup-tied for European football.

Hoffenheim have a tough task on their hands to keep him, but of course if they do they are unlikely to make a bid for Gradel.

The Leeds winger will of course be tempted by his former club, but Hoffenheim could offer him top flight football, and a chance to test himself in a new league.

It sounds best all round for The Whites if they can make a move for Gradel early, because leave it too late and a Premier League side could snap up Volland and make a deal that bit more complicated for them.
