‘Did Mertesacker make you write this?’

Facebook and Twitter react to Ozil’s apology and Mertesacker’s blaming in Arsenal’s 6-3 loss to Manchester City.

It wasn’t a pleasant day for Arsenal and their supporters on Saturday after receiving a beat down by Manchester City.

But the drama didn’t end after the whistle. Humiliated by his performance and the 6-3 result, Arsenal star Mesut Ozil went off the pitch with his head down.

One colleague wasn’t amused with Ozil ignoring the away fans. Per Mertesacker ran over to Ozil pointed the finger at him and screamed something – we suppose it was nothing nice.

Here is the video in case you missed the German row.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insisted after the game: “That is the Germans, they will sort that out between themselves. Don’t worry.”

It appears that the German international realised his mistake as he recently posted an apology to Arsenal fans on Facebook.

“Sorry I didn't thank the fans at the end of the game!

You have been brilliant to me and I know you had travelled a long way and spent your money to support us.

I was upset with the result and know I should have come to you to say 'thank you' and I know it is a big Arsenal tradition win, lose or draw.”

The responses to his apology were plenty and in many humourous.

More then 100,000 people liked Ozil’s post and 'likes' are rising rapidly

User Adit Thapa wrote “A win against Chelsea would be a perfect way to say your thank you to all the fans”. Nearly 3,000 people agreed with that on facebook.

But one post went viral with 295 replies and 13,147 likes. Arsenal fan Shazu Afzal commented “Did Mertesacker make you write this?”

“You win the Internet for today”, was one reply.

Twitter reacted as well.
