Manchester United transfer news: Koke unlikely to leave Atletico - report

A select round-up of transfer news relating to Manchester United

It has been widely reported that David Moyes attended the recent Champions league match between Atletico Madrid and FC Porto. And despite being linked with a whole host of Portuguese-based players, it seemed the Manchester United boss was – on that occasion – looking most closely at one man.

That man was the Atletico midfielder Koke, who is seen in some quarters as the much-needed solution to the Premier League champions' continuing domestic struggles.

And yet Spanish newspaper El Confidencial just cannot see it happening, because these days, the La Liga side are flying far higher than United domestically and (possibly in time) in Europe, too.

While Koke’s release-clause is an affordable one – and arguably something of a bargain when compared to that of United’s other Spanish-based target Ander Herrera – the paper states that the Atletico man may simply have no intention of leaving. And given his current side’s form and burgeoning reputation, why would he?

El Confidencial says the next task for Atletico manager Diego Simeone is to stop them being merely a step towards a bigger and better club. And there is no reason why he cannot.

So while January could see Koke linked with a switch to Old Trafford - and a bid arrive in the process - it could in fact be the players that Simeone brings in to the club that determines whether they can ultimately break the big-two dominance in La Liga, thus ensuring Koke has no need to leave his current surroundings to achieve the success he no doubt craves.
