€25m Manchester United summer target praises 'family' club

Unfortunately that club is his new club Bayern Munich and the player is Thiago Alcantara.

This summer saw plenty of teams linked with the signature of Barcelona creative midfielder Thiago Alcantara - especially after he starred in the Spanish Under-21 Championships this summer.

Not to mention the fact his contract with Barcelona now included a very affordable release clause thanks to him not playing enough games for the Catalan club the year previous.

The two teams most heavily linked with his signature were Manchester United and Bayern Munich - and seeing as he was available at €25 million it made perfect sense.

But in the end he went to Bayern Munich - as Pep Guardiola pursued a player he had high hopes for when at Barca tenaciously.

His time at Bayern however has not gone swimmingly so far.

He picked up a knee injury very early into his career at the Allianz Arena - which saw him ruled out from August until November.

Now he is back in the first-team after his recovery and starting to finally show everyone just what Moyes and Manchester United are really missing out on.

The injury-prone midfielder is now fit and ready - and showing Bayern fans the creativity, fluid movement and outside the box thinking that some teams in the Premier League, such as United, currently lack.

Thiago would have been the perfect United signing if United would have stumped up the money, whilst also convincing him to choose them over Bayern - which would have proved very difficult.

But as it is he is with Bayern, and very happy.

Yesterday, in Bild, he gushed over just how well he was treated whilst injured. When asked how the club behaved to him while he was on the side-lines he commented:

"I noticed that the club is different. On one side, large, strong, powerful. On the other small, family. There were lots of nice details” … before adding, regarding club directors Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeness, that “…they were really attentive, asked how the rehab goes. The mere fact that bosses inquire makes happy. "

In Thiago’s eyes it seems he made the right decision, in United’s - well they missed a trick.

Players the likes of Thiago only come around once in a blue moon and January may not offer such a promising night sky.
