Arsenal stars Tweet reaction to Napoli display

Arsene Wenger's side reached the last 16 despite 2-0 defeat to Napoli.

Arsenal’s players took to Twitter to respond to their narrow qualification for the Champions League knockout phase on Wednesday night.

Arsenal qualified for the last 16 despite losing 2-0 to Napoli, a result which sees them finish second in Group F behind Borussia Dortmund.

Gonzalo Higuain put Napoli ahead on 76 minutes, and after Mikel Arteta was sent off, Jose Callejon scored a second in injury-time.

It was not enough for the Serie A side, however, as they went out thanks to Dortmund’s late win against Marseille in the group’s other match.

And the Arsenal players were realistic in their appraisal, in particular Aaron Ramsey, who started the game on the bench.

Ramsey Tweeted: “A poor performance but we're through and now can focus on Saturday. Thanks in particular to the fans who travelled out to Italy.”

His sentiments were matched by those of Arsenal’s record-signing Mesut Ozil, who was largely kept quiet by the Italians. He Tweeted: “Sometimes a lost game can be like a Victory. Tough game.”

There was high praise for one of Arsenal’s centre-backs, however, with young striker Benik Afobe impressed with the display of Laurent Koscielny on a night when Arsenal needed to show their defensive resolve.

He Tweeted: “I think Laurent Koscielny is the best centre back in the Premiership. Quick, strong and intelligent. What do you all think? Opinions..”

And striker Lukas Podolski, who missed the match as he continues his recovery from injury, summed up the mood in the Arsenal camp. He Tweeted: “0:2 finally, but we're in the next round!”
