Transfer Bin: Gerard Pique to Manchester City

The former Manchester United defender has been linked with a heavily funded move to the Etihad, however, we don't see it happening.

Welcome to the Transfer Bin, this is where we laugh at the ridiculous, before putting the rumour where it belongs...The bin.

Today's helping comes from French Radio Station RMC, they reported that Manchester City will put in a huge bid for Barcelona's Gerard Pique in January, in an effort to ease their defensive issues.

Pique is an ever-present piece of Barcelona's jigsaw and although rumours with a move back to England are often associated with his name, none ever materialise.

The move to Manchester City can be rubbished on many different levels. Firstly looking from a Barcelona perspective, they have a player under contract for another 2 years and seemingly happy with his position and role at the club. It would be a needless change, as any defender moving out is likely to be replaced. Unless the player was kicking and screaming the door down, which I find unlikely, then I doubt the Barcelona would be keen on moving the player on.

Next on the list is why it's bad for Manchester City. Their fans are extremely negative about the former United defender and have voiced their displeasure on the player being linked to them in the past. I would say opinions are more split on his ability overall, but for the money needed to bring him over from Barcelona, I don't think it would leave many of them with a smile on their face.

And obviously there is always Pique, who has already played in Manchester albeit for United. I don't feel like he would excited by the move to Manchester City, especially when he is currently first team for Barcelona - so I think the deal would be a no go from that point of view anyway.

To summarise, I feel all 3 parties would prefer it if this deal didn't happen. So therefore, I give the rumour a steady 9/10 on the rubbish rating scale.
