Xavi Plegezuelo has left Barcelona’s famed youth academy … could he join his brother Julio at Arsenal.

Arsenal have had some success over the years when it comes to prying talented starlets away from the famed Barcelona cantera. La Masia has lost the likes of Jon Toral, Hector Bellerin, Fran Merida and of course Cesc Fabregas to The Gunners over the years and it now seems that another could be on the way.

Tony Sanabria, the Paraguayan international starlet at the club, has reportedly agreed a move away from the club – with AS Roma and Arsenal the favourites to snap up the 17-year-old.

The club could also welcome in another talent from Barca very soon – but it will be a long time before this lad will be playing in the Arsenal first-team.

His name is Xavi Pleguezuelo – and if you think that name sounds familiar there is a very good reason.

Arsenal signed his big brother Julio in June. The 16-year-old defender left Barcelona to move to North London.

Xavi is his ten-year-old little brother who is also very highly rated by the Barcelona team – and they will be displeased to see him leave.

He has the same agent as his brother, Sanabria and Josimar Quintero, another Barca prodigy who left for London this summer – joining Chelsea in June.

It is rumoured in Spain that his father has pulled him from the Barca academy – and plans on bringing him over to the UK to continue his footballing education.

There is no report of Arsenal offering him a trial or scholarship at this point in time but considering the good relationship struck up between Pleguezuelo senior and the agent concerned there is every chance they will at the very least take a look at him.

And they might just like what they see – as he looks like a set-piece specialist already.

Check him out in action…
