Manchester City fans react to Dzeko starting against Bayern Munich

Edin Dzeko has been included in the starting eleven as Manchester City face Bayern Munich in Champions League action.

The final match of the group stage between the heavyweights of England and Germany respectively sees the pair already qualified for the knockout stages, though Manuel Pellegrini’s men could steal the top spot in Group D with a surprise 3-0 win or better at the Allianz Arena.

Whilst success is improbable against the defending European champions on their home turf, the Citizens will be inclined to have a concerted go at securing a weaker opponent for the round of 16.

Pellegrini naming Dzeko amongst the starters provoked a mixed reaction from City fans on Twitter, many implying that his having been picked shows a lack of ambition from the Chilean manager in what could be a useful game in the side’s development.

The Bosnian has been bemoaned as “lazy” and “inconsistent” throughout the campaign en route to five goals in eight starts between the Premier League and continental play, tipped for an imminent exit from the Etihad Stadium in sitting behind Alvaro Negredo on the pecking order to get minutes alongside Sergio Aguero.

A teammate of his at the international level, Roma’s Miralem Pjanic, suggested earlier in the day that his compatriot could may be inclined to make a switch to Serie A.

However, today, he starts up front for City against the German treble-winners of a season ago in a bid to prove his worth to his current employers.

Following are the reactions of fans on Twitter to the news of Dzeko’s starting berth:
