Manchester United latest: Shakhtar clash and Strootman

News, views and rumours relating to Manchester United in the past 24 hours.

Manchester United take on Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League this evening at Old Trafford, and here is the team line-up:

Starting XI: De Gea, Rafael, Ferdinand, Evans, Buttner, Jones, Giggs, Januzaj, Kagawa, Young, Rooney

Subs: Lindegaard, Anderson, Cleverley, Nani, Valencia, Hernandez, van Persie.

United legend Gary Neville has asserted that the team lack ‘fury’ of pervious teams:

“To say that as a United fan is hard because in years gone by you'd say anything was retrievable, but at this moment in time they're not in that mind-set of even thinking about the title.

"They're thinking probably 'let's get our next win', not about winning their next title. If they won the title it would be the greatest championship they have ever won, it really would.

"But I don't see it because I think at this moment in time they've really got to consolidate, get themselves together, get that belief back, start to pick up points and not even think about the championship."

In transfer new, rumours persists that United are interested in Ilkay Gundogan of Borussia Dortmund’s midfield.

Rumours also continue surrounding United ‘target’ Kevin Strootman who insists he is happy to stay at Roma following his transfer to Italy this summer.

The Dutch midfielder Strootman’s agent has also confirmed that his client is ‘happy’ in the Italian capital and is not contemplating a move to the English champion despite speculation over his future.
