He'd get nowhere near Bayern or Barca - Keane on Manchester United man

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has been pinpointed through no fault of his own as an illustration of the club's woes.

While his former teammates enjoy life on the golf course, in management, or as pundits - Ryan Giggs is still going strong at 40.

He started Manchester United's win over Shakhtar Donetsk, and Roy Keane was split in his observations.

He had no criticism for the evergreen Giggs, but felt it was symptomatic of United's problems.

"It's a big warning sign.

"You wouldn't see a 40-year-old in the Bayern Munich side, or Barcelona.

"Credit to Giggsy for that but they should have had more midfielders coming through, or certainly invested."

Keane divides opinion at the best of times but it is hard to disagree with his comments here.

Giggs would struggle to get in the sides at Bayern and Barcelona - because they have successfully evolved over time.

At Manchester United when they had one of world football's best talents at their disposal in Paul Pogba, they decided to recall Paul Scholes instead of giving the Frenchman a chance.

Giggs at present in on the team on merit, able to offer more than the likes of Anderson - but that in itself is concerning, not just for the Brazilian but the club as a whole.
