Five youngsters worth watching from the Bundesliga

Wolfsburg, Stuttgart, Bayer Leverkusen, FC Schalke and Hamburg stars all feature.

The Bundesliga has always been a very exciting league to watch but it’s grown significantly over the last couple of seasons.

The recent dominance in European football by Borussia Dortmund and especially Bayern Munich, has been remarkable and a large part of the success in the German game is down to teams giving younger players a chance to impress.

Here are five Bundesliga youngsters worth watching this season.

Ricardo Rodriguez (Wolfsburg)

The 21-year-old Wolfsburg star has been one of, if not the, best left sided defenders in the Bundesliga this season.

He’s started every league game he’s been selected for and has produced one goal and two assists, which has helped Wolfsburg move up to fifth, just seven points behind Borussia Dortmund in second place.

Alexandru Maxim (VFB Stuttgart)

Maxim is 23-year-old playmaker, who plays at the top of the Stuttgart midfield as the most advanced player.

He’s scored four goals in the league this season and the Romanian is one of the leading assist providers in German football with six assists from his ten appearances so far this season.

Son Heung-Min (Bayer Leverkusen)

The 21-year-old forward was strongly linked to several top Premier League sides last summer.

He has a strike rate at the moment of one goal for every two starts and he’s also produced two assists. He’s also a very effective player in possession with a passing success rate of 81.4%.

Julian Draxler (FC Schalke)

The regular followers of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United will already know a lot about this 20-year-old.

The attacking midfielder has a goal and three assists in the Bundesliga this season and he’s one of the best midfielders to watch in any Schalke game. His pace, movement and understanding of position makes him a very good player and it wouldn’t be surprising if he secures a big move next summer.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga (Hamburg)

This 21-year-old forward has scored eight goals in six games so far this season.

Lasogga is a straight up goalscorer and someone who you shouldn’t expect to see doing a lot of the leg work for his side. Any fan who appreciates the textbook art of goalscoring will love watching this youngster play.
