Could Chelsea land Lewandowski with Ba swap offer?

The Pole’s imminent departure could leave Jurgen Klopp open to trying to get something in return, but would he settle for Demba Ba, a player proven in the Bundesliga?

Jose Mourinho may have one more ace up his sleeve as Chelsea continue to pursue Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski with the Special One plotting a bid that would see Demba Ba move in the opposite direction.

The Senegalese forward has this week expressed his desire to seek a move away from Stamford Bridge in January, with West Ham United heading up the list of potential Premier League suitors.

But Ba could potentially favour a move to the Bundesliga, where he previously thrived with Hoffenheim before making his big-money debut in the English top flight.

But while Hoffenheim remain one of the smallest clubs in the German top-flight, the 28-year-old forward may be drawn to the opportunity to play for Dortmund, one of the biggest clubs in European and finalists in last season’s Champions League.

Jurgen Klopp, meanwhile, may take the opportunity to not only cash in on the soon-to-be-out-of-contract Pole but secure a replacement in the short-term.

Lewandowski has made no secret of his intentions to seek a move away from the Westfalenstadion, with Chelsea able to offer the striker both a bumper contract and the prospect of regular first-team action.

Fernando Torres may be enjoying a return to form for the Stamford Bridge club, but given his fine record at Dortmund, the 25-year-old could find himself thrown straight into the starting 11 by his new no-nonsense manager Mourinho.

Ultimately any offer would hinge on the wishes of Lewandowski, but with Dortmund already willing to let his current contract run down until the summer, a January transfer to Chelsea could offer up an early escape route for the Pole.

Ba is likely to be open to an deal though, which would offer the former Newcastle man one last shot at an extended run in the Champions League under inspirational boss Klopp.
