Manchester United

Are Arsenal and Chelsea still Rooney's most likely destinations?

David Moyes comments potentially leave the door open to possible suitors for the England star to re-ignite their interest.

In the aftermath of United’s 3-1 away win over Fulham, Adnan Januzaj was again at the fore-front of praise from supporters and the management of Manchester United.

David Moyes commented after the game about Adnan Januzaj’s best position and where he could end up featuring for Manchester United in the future, unfortunately it wasn’t the answer Wayne Rooney was hoping for.

Speaking after the game, Moyes said:

‘’In time, Adnan’s best position will be No.10

‘’But while he’s so young, it is better to introduce him on the left or right’’

Wayne Rooney was again at the height of speculation during the summer with moves to several high profile clubs around Europe including Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona but in the end stayed on at United and is currently enjoying some of his best form at the club in recent years.

These comments will no-doubt lead to heightened speculation with the January transfer window coming up and the England star would be well within his right to feel undermined by his manager after a game where he scored, and showed his class through-out.

Reports had been coming out of the Manchester club that they were confident that he would sign a new contract at United and reject the advances of Chelsea and Arsenal amongst other clubs, however, after these comments I wouldn’t be surprised to see him leave his options open.

I take a look at possible suitors for the England man’s signature either in the January transfer window or in the summer.

Mourinho has been a long-term admirer of the United star since his first spell at Chelsea and has reportedly tried to sign the scouse striker on many occasions for both Chelsea and Real Madrid. Mourinho, who apparently submitted a final bid for 40 million for the England man in the summer still didn’t do enough for Man Utd to give the move the green light and with the interest there, could something happen soon?

Wenger will no-doubt be in the market for a striker to cover Giroud as they are currently severely lacking up top in both numbers and quantity. They were reportedly looking at Rooney early into the summer transfer window, before they made a move on Suarez at Liverpool and Higuain at Madrid. The North-London side eventually signed Ozil on the final day for £42 million and with a quarter of the season done, and 5 points clear they could make bold moves in January to help them get over the line and secure their first Premier League title since 2004.

Real Madrid

long-term admirers of Wayne Rooney through various management structures at the club, the big-spending Spanish side could look to powerful striker to rekindle their title hopes as they sit 6 points behind rivals Barcelona with 12 games gone. The move to Spain is one the striker has left the door open to in the past and his style has been endorsed by the likes of Gerard Pique who has reiterated he would have the necessary qualities to become a huge hit in La Liga.

The move is only speculation at the minute, and any indication of ill-feeling towards Moyes and his comments at the weekend could be false, however, having asked on previous occasions to leave the Premier League champions I wouldn’t bank on anything other than full support being enough to keep the player at the club.
