Manchester United 'manager' had big squad of girlfriends

Sven Goran Erikson is said to have claimed that he did indeed sign a contract to manage Manchester United in 2002, before Sir Alex Ferguson changed his mind and decided to stay on.

Sven's recently-released autobiography seems to confirm the view that, over the years, he has had even more girlfriends than he has managed football teams - and he's managed or been Technical Director or Director of Football of at least 17 of them in all!

Extracts from the autobiography appear to confirm that Erikson has spent just as much time over the years chasing girls as football trophies, and it's difficult to see how he would have been a fit for Manchester United, where Sir Alex Ferguson spent 27 highly successful years (with only his wife for support!).

Choosing someone to manage a club like Manchester United is no easy task, where the character of the manager must also play a part in the overall package. And, even though David Moyes hasn't had the best of starts to his tenure at the club, it's easier to see him in the same mould as a Sir Matt Busby or a SAF than it is a Sven Goran Erikson - of whom former girlfriend Ulrika Jonsson says in the Sun today that sex with the Swede was about as exciting as an Ikea flat pack!

Manchester United went on to pick up 18 pieces of silverware after Sir Alex decided to stay in 2002. It would be interesting to have seen exactly what Sven would have picked up (aside from a few more girlfriends, of course).
