Liverpool weekend round-up: Teenager set for new deal and £10m striker linked

Liverpool failed to climb above Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday as they lost 2-0 to the Gunners at the Emirates.

Goals from Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey saw to the Reds, with Arsene Wenger’s side well worth their victory.

However, speaking after the match Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers explained that nothing is decided so early in the season, despite saying Arsenal were the better team on the day.

Rodgers was forced to replace Glen Johnson with Jon Flanagan at late notice after the England right-back suffered an infection in his face and jaw.

The Daily Mail has since reported that Johnson was taken to hospital shortly before the game, but that he is expected to return to training later next week.

In transfer news, the Mirror ran a story late last night linking Liverpool with a possible move for Marseille striker Andre Ayew.

The report claims the Ghanaian is set to leave France in January and both the Reds and Newcastle United are monitoring the situation.

With 18 months left on his contract, his current club is reportedly seeking around £10million from interested parties.

From potential arrivals to a player who may be about to sign a new contract at Anfield, with the Sunday People claiming Jordon Ibe is in line for a new deal, followed by a loan move.

The 17-year-old is said to have greatly impressed Rodgers in recent months, to such an extent that he wants to tie the player to an improved contract before seeing what he can do when given the chance to play regular first-team football.
