Liverpool 'join race for Argentine wonder-kid' as defender praises new role

A select round-up of morning news relating to Liverpool

The Express has followed up on reports in Italy that Liverpool are monitoring Argentine wonder-kid Juan Iturbe.

The FC Porto player is currently on loan at Verona, and with reported interest from some of Serie A’s biggest club’s in signing the playmaker permanently, Brendan Rodgers is said to be readying a move.

Iturbe is reportedly being considered as an alternative to Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge as and when the need arises, and having already been linked with a switch to Manchester United, there is no doubt the player dubbed in some quarters as ‘the new Lionel Messi’ is on a lot of club’s radars.

In other news, Liverpool’s Glen Johnson has spoken to the Mirror about his pleasure at playing again.

The right-back has been playing in a more advanced role in recent weeks, and is loving the freedom a wing-back role offers.

I think the wing-back role suits me and it’s just good to be back playing again,” he said.

Obviously it’s difficult to be box-to-box for 90 minutes, almost impossible, so you have to play the game as it comes, go forward at the right times and defend at the right times.”

Johnson will be hoping to continue his fine recent form when Liverpool travel to the Emirates for today’s late kick-off against Arsenal.
