Tottenham latest: Lamela appeals for time, striker move delayed

Also, Defoe linked with QPR, Sigurdsson on his goal…

Tottenham forward Erik Lamela has appealed for time from the Tottenham finds as he tries to find his feet in English football. Lamela signed for Spurs from Roma for around £30m during the summer but has said the fans will see him at his best when he has adjusted to the game.

He said: ‘I think I need a bit of time. I feel good here, although getting used to life here in every sense is a completely different thing. I’ve barely been here two months, so time is maybe what I need. I need training, a bit of rhythm, some games. English football is very different from the game in Italy – much more physical, whereas Serie A is more tactical.’

Jermain Defoe has been linked with a move to MLS side Toronto for much of the week but former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp may be prepared to offer him a contract at Queens Park Rangers according to the Daily Express.

Defoe currently seems to be the second choice striker at Spurs this season behind Roberto Soldado.

Spurs boss Andre Villas Boas has said that despite interest from other clubs in striker Harry Kane, they are very happy with him and are delaying a loan move for the time being. Kane has been heavily linked with a move to QPR.

AVB said: ‘We have lots of interest for Harry but if his next loan move happens then we have to make 100% certain that he will be involved. I think with the way he is training that he has more chance of playing in those teams but the reality is that he is doing enough to compete for a place here.’

Midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson said he was delighted to score a goal of the season contender in last night’s Capital One Cup victory over Hull City.

He told the club’s website: ‘It was nice to get the goal. I hit it quite sweetly and thankfully it hit the target.’
