Five Manchester United players who could leave the club this January

Several Manchester United players could be shown the exit door by David Moyes this winter.

One of the reasons for Manchester United’s inconsistent start to the Premier League season is David Moyes not knowing what his best eleven is.

Moyes has used several different combinations of players in the Premier League and other competitions as he’s learned more about his playing staff, who has a future in his side and who doesn’t.

January could see Moyes clearing out and telling players he doesn’t believe are good enough to go and find other clubs.

Here are five players who could find themselves in that position.

Brazilian midfielder Anderson has already reportedly been told to go and find a new club by David Moyes.

Anderson has bags of talent but has never been able to show that at United on a consistent basis. With more midfield players likely to come in, Anderson will simply be pushed further down the pecking order.

Alexander Buttner

Moyes has been very public in his pursuit of another left-back to come into his United squad.

It’s clear he doesn’t have a great deal of confidence in Alexander Buttner’s ability to replace Patrice Evra and if Moyes pulls off the signing of someone like Leighton Baines this winter, Buttner could easily be on his way.

Anders Lindegaard

The Danish goalkeeper is most definitely the number two to David De Gea.

Moyes has hinted that he will be looking to give Lindegaard more chances in the first team over coming weeks but if he can’t take those chances, he may seek a move away from the club in January.

With the talented Ben Amos rising up through the ranks, there won’t be too many at Old Trafford trying to stop him.

Fabio is unfortunate that the defenders ahead of him have been so consistent for such a long period.

At the moment, he’s nowhere near forcing Patrice Evra out of the first team and another left-back signing this winter puts him in the same position as Buttner in terms of first team chances.

Ashley Young

Young has been given the chance to control the left hand side of United’s midfield but he’s not been able to take it.

Few United fans, and even the manager, would be willing to select Young ahead of Nani, Adnan Januzaj or Danny Welbeck down the left of United’s midfield and United could net a good fee for Young who still has three years left to run on his contract.
