Reports from Italy claim a number of English-based players have made the list of 50 potentially in line to win this year's Ballon d'Or.
Italian newspaper Gazetta dello Sport has revealed that Mario Balotelli, Gigi Buffon and Andrea Pirlo are the three Italians to make it onto the (not so) shortlist of 50 in the running for the 2013 Ballon d’Or.
But journalist Tancredi Palmeri has gone one better, naming more than half the list on his Twitter account this morning; a list which includes players from Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City.
A 23-man list will be drawn up and announced by FIFA on 29 October. The voting stage will then take place to announce Lionel Messi…sorry…I mean someone as the winner.
But in the meantime, have a look at Tancredi’s tweets below and tell us if you agree with the choices.
The journalist also revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson is unsurprisingly one of the managers in line for FIFA’s Best Manager Award.
Could the former United boss be set for one final honour? Probably not when you consider Bayern Munich’s former manager Jupp Heynckes is also in line for further recognition for his outstanding treble-winning success during his final campaign at the Allianz Arena.
