Sturridge's samba dream, Johnson returns to full training

Croatia memory spurs Gerrard on, Agger wants CL football, and a transfer rumour that isn't Suarez.

With the crucial final matches of the World Cup qualifications taking place tonight, a lot of club news is focused on players playing for their national side.

Striker Daniel Sturridge has admitted he is excited at the prospect of playing in a World Cup in Brazil. Sturridge is hoping to play a major part in helping England get to Brazil by beating Poland in tonight’s game at Wembley – a result which will guarantee England qualification.

The striker said: ‘There’s going to be some samba going on, isn’t there? Obviously it’s going to be a good vibe.

‘It just makes it seem more glamorous. I don’t know what it is about Brazil, but everybody links them to football.

‘For now, I just have to concentrate on first helping us get there and then being on that plane. That’s the most important thing.’

Captain Steven Gerrard is being spurred on by the Croatia loss in 2007, which meant that England failed to qualify for the subsequent European Championships in 2008.

Gerrard said: 'It's a memory I will have to take to the grave with me. One of the lowest moments of my international journey.'

Liverpool have received a boost with right-back Glen Johnson returning to full training according to the Daily Express. Johnson has been out of action since picking up an ankle injury against Manchester United at the start of September.

Fellow defender Daniel Agger has spoken of his desire to return the club to the Champions League and hinted that no European football this season could help Liverpool’s cause.

The Dane told Politiken: ‘We would like to play in Europe, that is the most attractive, particularly the Champions League.

‘But, of course, fewer matches lets us recover better and we get more focused on the [Premier League] matches and that might be an advantage.’

Transfer rumours now, and the rumour circulating today is that Brendan Rodgers is eyeing Barcelona’s Christian Tello – something that has circulated before.

The story from TalkSport seems to be based on quotes in a Spanish newspaper, hinting that Tello will look to leave if he doesn’t play regularly.

He is quoted as saying: ‘[I want to be] playing as much as possible but I know who I have in front of me. But hey I’m ready to play it all if needed.

‘I know that I can perform at the top, but that’s the coach’s decision. He has to choose between all of his options.’
