'I hope there is a new Ozil soon in the making' - Ozil

Arsenal’s Ozil might be one of the humblest football players around. In an interview he talks about his beginnings, and the fans of his new club.

Could it be that the man who drives a Mercedes-Benz SLS with featured wing doors and earns £130,000 per-week is that humble?

Mesut Ozil clearly has everything a kid could wish for. He has played at a very high level for the top clubs in all of football, earned a fortune, has been well respected around his peers and loved by fans.

However he still knows where he came from.

In an interview with the German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung he told about dropping by his old pitch near his parents house: “I hope there is a new Ozil soon in the making.”

Ozil about winning with Arsenal: 'I will give everything I've got'

It seems like Ozil is holding on to his own past. Last season with Real Madrid he invited his old youth manager from his time at Bundesliga’s FC Schalke over to Madrid.

“He was the man, who bet on me. […] he saw in me, what maybe other managers didn’t saw. That is why I’m always grateful.”

The new Gunner apparently loves to be in London and appreciates having fun, playing ball and being in a family-like environment. “From the cleaning lady to the top, somehow they are all Arsenal FC and Real Madrid … not so much, one could read between the lines.

Arsenal fans adore Mesut Ozil’s skills on the pitch. His arrival was celebrated with a gathering of fans wearing Ozil Arsenal shirts outside the stadium. Now fans might feel good about the fact that their actions are valued highly.

“The atmosphere in England is new for me […].The fans are celebrating football differently” the attacking midfielder says.

He added: “I haven’t seen something like that before. When someone loses the ball, runs after it and gets it back the stadium is cheering to raise the roof. That’s what they want to see. That you are fighting und want to win desperately. You get goosebumps sometimes. As a player there is nothing that tops that.”

That should prove every doubter wrong – if there ever was any – that the £42.4 million for Ozil was well spent.

Or do you think differently?
