Liverpool transfer news: Defeat in Willian pursuit, move for Hughes still on

A round up of the latest transfer stories about Liverpool.

Reports this morning are suggesting that Liverpool have lost out to Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Willian from Anzhi Makhachkala.

The fee Spurs will pay is thought to be in the region of €35 million, substantially higher than the €30 million Liverpool are reported to have offered.

Liverpool will now have to focus on other transfer targets as Brendan Rodgers seeks another attacking player before the close of the transfer window.

The news could make it easier for Liverpool to go after Internacional star Leandro Damiao who has admitted that he would be open to a Premier League switch.

Several Premier League sides are thought to be interested in the Brazilian, with Southampton having already seen an £18 million offer for the player rejected earlier this summer.

“If a very good offer comes then maybe it could happen,” admitted the player.

In other transfer news, the Metro has become the latest source to report on Liverpool’s pursuit of Derby County’s Will Hughes.

Stories started appearing earlier this week that Liverpool were seriously interested in the 18-year-old, ready with a £6 million offer to try and make the transfer happen.

“There is interest but at the moment nothing is happening with Will. But at the end of the transfer window anything can happen,” said Derby boss Nigel Clough.
