Liverpool transfer news: Move for Paraguayan defender, Olympiacos star on radar

A brief round up of the latest transfer stories and news connected to Liverpool.

Liverpool have made an approach to Benfica over a possible loan move for left back Lorenzo Melgarejo.

Brendan Rodgers is thought to want the defender on loan for the coming season, with the possibility of making any deal permanent next summer.

The move is part of an apparent plan by Rodgers to increase competition for Jose Enrique at left back.

Liverpool are thought to be pondering a move for Olympiacos’ Portuguese midfielder Paulo Machado.

Portuguese newspaper Record has suggested that Liverpool are lining up a move for the 27-year-old as a squad player.

Brendan Rodgers is still looking for a creative and attacking signing before the start of the season as well as a defensive player. Machado featured in 28 Greek league games last season as his current side secured a spot in the Champions League.

Belgian side Anderlecht are in talks with Liverpool over winger Oussama Assaidi.

The 24-year-old was rarely used by Brendan Rodgers last season and is way down the midfield pecking order at Liverpool, threatening his position at the club.

Liverpool originally paid Heerenveen £2.4 million for him, but he got only 77 minutes of Premier League football last season. Anderlecht are thought to want to pay around £3 million with Liverpool holding out for double that amount.
