Ligue 1 star happy to be linked with Southampton

Ryad Boudebouz has suggested he is open to the idea of a move to Southampton this summer.

Sochaux’s 23-year-old midfielder has indicated he would be prepared to move to Southampton this summer, with Boudebouz perhaps set to become the latest fine acquisition in what has already been an impressive summer’s business for Southampton.

Victor Wanyama completed a move from Celtic to Southampton last week, joining Dejan Lovren at St Mary’s Stadium after the centre-back’s £8.5million switch from Lyon.

Boudebouz has one year left on his current deal at Sochaux, and the Algerian has been linked with a string of clubs since making his debut for the French side when just 18. Since then he has played 162 times for Sochaux in Ligue 1, scoring 23 times, and is now apparently ready to consider a move to a different league this summer.

"I have a contract until 2014 here so let's see what the club will say, I am open to talk," Boudebouz told

"My dream has always been to play in England or Spain. To be linked with Southampton is interesting; it is everyone's dream to be linked with good teams in big leagues in Europe.

"Southampton has a good history in the Premier League but I have a contract with Sochaux who is like Southampton in France."

Liverpool have also been linked with Boudebouz in the past, and Southampton sent scouts to watch him in action against Auxerre last season.

The 23-year-old can play on either flank or through the middle, and scored three times in addition to setting up 7 goals in 32 Ligue 1 appearances last season. Boudebouz could expect to compete with Gaston Ramirez and others for a first team place at St Mary’s.

Having strengthened his team’s defence and their central midfield this summer, Mauricio Pochettino might now be focussing on adding some more depth to their attacking resources, and Ryad Boudebouz would be another fabulous signing for Southampton if they can pull it off.
