Tottenham Hotspur latest: Including Paulinho and Deulofeu

A round-up of news and views relating to Tottenham Hotspur over the past 24 hours.

Brazilian midfielder Paulinho has praised Frank Lampard and said he hopes to emulate the Chelsea midfielder when he plays for Tottenham Hotspur. Juan Roman Riquelme recently compared Paulinho to Lampard, and the Brazilian hopes he can live up to that tag.

“This comparison is a responsibility I will take, I will not run away from it,” said Paulinho “Lampard is a great player not only for Chelsea but world football.

“I’ve always looked at what Lampard does and, to me, he is a phenomenon — the way he hits the ball, what positions he takes up. He really is incredible.”

Spurs have reportedly ended their interest in signing Leandro Damiao, with Southampton now the main contenders for the Brazilian striker. Spurs have been chasing Damiao for the past couple of years, but have decided to purse other targets, including David Villa, this summer. Internacional have said that Damiao will only be sold if their £21.5million valuation of the striker is met.

Besiktas are hoping to sign one of Spurs current strikers, with the Turkish club interested in Emmanuel Adebayor. The striker scored only five league goals last season after joining Spurs permanently in the summer, and Adebayor could be sold to help fund the London side’s ambitious transfer plans. Besiktas director Ahmet Kavalci has said that the Turkish team have made an offer for Adebayor, but also that negotiations were at an early stage.

Spurs and Everton are leading the chase for Barcelona youngster Gerard Deulofeu, who could be loaned out next season due to the competition for places at the La Liga champions. The 19-year-old is rated as one of the most exciting talents at the Spanish club, and scored 18 goals in 33 appearance for Barcelona B last season.

There have been reports that Spurs have emerged as surprise contenders for Alvaro Negredo this summer, despite the striker seeming to be on the brink of agreeing a move to Manchester City. The Premier League runners up are still overwhelming favourites to sign the Sevilla striker, but Spurs are apparently monitoring the situation.

On HITC today we look at how Spurs can make it impossible for Real Madrid to buy Gareth Bale next summer, and argue that Andre Villas-Boas should consider a move for Keisuke Honda instead of Bernard this transfer window.
