Manchester City, Swansea City, Southampton and Arsenal are some of the Premier League sides who should consider a move for Adam Maher, after Ajax director of football Marc Overmars said his team are not interested in signing the 19-year-old.
As recently as a week ago it seemed certain that Adam Maher was going to move to Ajax as a replacement for the Borussia Dortmund bound Christian Eriksen.
However since then Dortmund have come out saying they are not interested in signing Eriksen, and, more recently, Ajax have said that they are no longer interested in Maher.
This might yet prove to be an intricate game of cat-and-mouse, especially as Dortmund are likely to miss out on their preferred target to replace Mario Gotze, as Chelsea want to keep Kevin De Bruyne at Stamford Bridge this summer, but which Premier League teams should try and capitalise on Ajax’s current reluctance to complete a move for Maher?
Manchester City have long held an interest in the 19-year-old, and if they miss out on signing Isco this summer, they could bring in Maher to boost their attacking midfield resources.
With a rumoured price-tag of €10million, Maher is far from out of the reach of many clubs in the Premier League, and Southampton and Swansea City are two teams that should consider a move for midfielder.
Swansea could be looking to replace Jonathan De Guzman if a deal cannot be agreed for the player after his successful loan spell at the Liberty last season. De Guzman’s compatriot Maher has all the attributes to be a success at Swansea, and it could be the ideal place for him to continue his development.
Southampton have already made it clear they will not be shy about making big moves this summer by bringing in Dejan Lovren, and Maher would be a fine addition to add some creativity to their midfield.
Maher has also been linked with Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in the past, but they are unlikely to be interested in him this summer having moved onto other options.
However if the possibility arose to bring in a talented young player at a good price, Maher could be a handy addition to Arsenal in particular, perhaps to act as a long-term replacement for Tomas Rosicky in their attacking midfield.
