Chelsea latest: 2013/14 Fixtures announced and Cavani

A round-up of news and views relating to Chelsea over the past 24 hours.

Chelsea will begin their 2013/14 Premier league campaign at home to newly-promoted Hull City on the 17th August, before going away to title rivals Manchester United the following weekend. The Blues’ final game of the season is at Cardiff.

Jose Mourinho has said he is delighted to start his second Chelsea stint at Stamford Bridge, although he expects Hull to provide a stern test.

“I am so happy to start at the Bridge, but at the same time Hull City is a team who were promoted from the Championship and they will have that spirit, even if now they are in the Premier League. So it is an emotional but a hard start," he said

Barcelona are apparently considering a bid for Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata, who is rated at around £30million. Despite the Spaniard’s excellent season at Stamford Bridge, where he was voted Chelsea Player of the year for the second time in a row, there has been speculation that Mourinho will look to cash in on the player as he wants move Eden Hazard into a more prominent role in the team.

Mata himself has said that he is completely focussed on his role with Spain in the Confederations Cup. The tournament finishes at the end of the month, with Mata hoping to play as many games for Spain as he can despite his long season with the Blues.

Chelsea are set to hold talks with Napoli about a possible move for striker Edinson Cavani after being frustrated in their attempts to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Robert Lewandowski. Napoli have made it clear that only a straight cash offer of £53million will be enough to sign the Uruguayan, with Real Madrid and Manchester City also reportedly interested.

Roman Abramovich apparently was on a scouting mission at the Under-21 European Championship final last night, and three Spanish players have caught his eye after their 4-2 win over Italy. Thiago Alcantara, who scored a hat-trick, Isco and Alvaro Morata all impressed the Chelsea owner, and they could be targeted this summer.

Wesley Sneijder will not be moving to Chelsea this summer, after the Dutch midfielder’s agent Soren Lerby made it clear that the player was happy at Galatasaray after moving there in January.
