Zelalem plays another 90 minutes as Arsenal's u-21s win

Gedion Zelalem got his first win in an Arsenal under-21 shirt under his belt against Wolves.

Last week Gedion Zelalem made his very first Arsenal under-21 appearance, and offered an early glimpse as to why everybody was so excited about his debut.

The 16-year-old German has been compared to Cesc Fabregas, and touted as a future star of the first team, but every journey has baby steps, and he is taking his at present.

In his debut his fancy footwork led to a wondergoal from Serge Gnabry in a 3-2 loss to Liverpool, but this week he was on the winning side in an Arsenal shirt for the first time.

Zelalem was again handed a central midfield berth, playing alongside and against players well above his 16 years, and played 90 minutes for the second week running.

The confidence being placed in him is an indication of his talent, and he showed good flashes against Wolves.

Arsenal won the game 3-2, with two goals from top scorer Chuba Akpom, who Arsene Wenger has previously stated is not far off a first team appearance.

The winner was scored in injury-time by Sanchez Watt, a forgotten man of Arsenal's youth system, once hailed as the next big thing, who after several loan spells still remains contracted to the club.

The Gunners also saw out the final stages with 10 men after Daniel Boateng was sent off after making a foul as the last man when an opponent was through on goal.

Young Zelalem once again did not appear out of place, or let the side down. While at present it is too early to expect him to dominate games, at the moment it's just a case of getting matches under his belt between now and the end of the season and letting the management assess his prospects for the future.

If he continues looking comfortable, it isn't over-stating it to believe a first team appearance in the League Cup is beyond him next season, indeed if he has a promising pre-season, it may just happen.
