Liverpool weekend round-up: Including Hatem Ben Arfa and Jamie Carragher

News and gossip from Anfield.

Liverpool drew with Reading at the Madejski Stadium this weekend. The Reds dominated for vast swathes of the game against the relegation threatened side but found goalkeeper Alex McCarthy in sensational form.

Brendan Rodgers is hoping to convince Jamie Carragher to change his mind in regards to his retirement plans this summer. The veteran defender announced earlier in the season that he was ready to leave the club and the sport this summer despite becoming a regular in the starting line-up once again.

Newcastle United playmaker Hatem Ben Arfa has been linked with Liverpool this weekend. Liverpool were told no by the Magpies in January but it appears they will go in for the French international again this summer.

Andy Carroll has admitted he is open to a permanent move from Liverpool to West Ham this summer. Since early struggles with injury the former Newcastle United striker has rediscovered his best in recent weeks and is relishing first-team opportunities.

Brendan Rodgers has cited Borussia Dortmund as a successful model the club can base itself on moving forward. The German side are in the Champions League semi-final having spent the bare minimum on talent over the past few seasons and he believes there template proves his philosophy may just work.

Finally and it appears long-term target Christian Eriksen may not be on his way to Anfield after all. It is now being reported that Manchester City are his preferred option ahead of both Liverpool and rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
