Manchester United - Win the league and then let Nick Powell run riot

Manchester United have been linked with letting Nick Powell go on loan next season, but he could prove this campaign that he should stay at the club.

Nick Powell has been unfortunate not to play a larger part in Manchester United's season, but it is fair to say he will have learned more during his short time at the club than he ever could have imagined.

After scoring on his debut, but not making a Premier League appearance since a 12 minute cameo against QPR in November, Powell must be getting itchy feet to show what he can do for his new club.

The 18-year-old has been featuring regularly for United's under-21 side in 2013, and this week talk has been building regarding his future, with The Star reporting this week that a decision is close to being made for him to go out on loan to another Premier League side this season.

Yet the way the season is developing, there could be an opportunity at United opening up for him before the end of the campaign.

United are 15 points ahead of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table, and on course to wrap up the title with games to spare.

Even if they drop points between now and clinching the trophy, there could be three or four 'dead rubbers' between then and the end of the season.

This will allow Sir Alex Ferguson to rotate his squad, with nothing to play for but pride, but there will likely be a number of players looking to prove a point.

This is where Nick Powell comes in. United should start him in all the remaining matches once and if the title is won, giving him an opportunity to run riot and show what he can do.

He will likely be alongside Anderson and Ashley Young who it may be considered are playing for their very futures at the club, while others like Alexander Buttner are in a similar position to Powell.

The Englishman will have an opportunity to convince United that he should in fact remain at Old Trafford next season, and he should be fast tracked rather than loaned out. He could even speed up the departure of a player like Anderson.

He is just one more reason why United should strive not to slack off and win the league as quickly as possible without letting up, for when they have, they can learn more about players like Powell who presently remain on the fringes.
