Aston Villa latest: Including Delph's suspension and club debts

All of the latest Aston Villa news.

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has urged his side to show a ruthless streak over the rest of the season. Lambert has suggested Villa need to be cut throat in the way they approach games and deadly over the way they look to pick up points, which will keep them safe.

Aston Villa full back Matt Lowton has suggested that captain Ciaran Clark will bounce back. Clark made a poor error which led to Manchester City’s goal as Villa lost the Premier League match earlier in the week. Clark initially suggested he’d been fouled but replays showed he’d slipped.

Paul Lambert has said the club will miss Fabian Delph. The aggressive midfielder has picked up a suspension after accumulating too many bookings this season. Lambert has suggested he’s one of the most important players in the current team so the news is a big blow.

Aston Villa have cut their overall losses to a figure of £17.7 million. That means a reduction of more than 50 per cent on previous losses of £36.2 million. However, the club also suffered a drop of just under £12 million in terms of Premier League turnover for 2011/2012.

Paul Lambert remains positive about the club’s chances of staying in the Premier League next season. He has tried to reassure fans by suggesting that he and the players are doing everything they can in each match, to give themselves the best chance of getting to 40 points.

Charles N’Zogbia has been named as Aston Villa player of the month for February. The Frenchman has been in superb form as Villa continue their fight against the threat of relegation. He was followed by Christian Benteke and Andreas Weimann in the voting.

Simon Dawkins has revealed that he has complete faith the club will be in the Premier League next season. He has suggested that he joined Villa to play in England’s top division and doesn’t expect to be representing them in the Championship next year and beyond.

The future of Ciaran Clark may be reviewed at the end of the season. The Aston Villa captain has been given the leadership role for this season with many suggestions that he may be axed at the end of the current campaign, regardless of whether the club stay in the Premier League.

Fabian Delph has suggested that he’s been harshly treated by Premier League officials this season. Delph has been booked on ten different occasions but has suggested that he has not deserved up to six of the yellow cards he’s been shown. He recently admitted to loving flying into challenges.
