A round-up of news and views relating to Chelsea over the past 24 hours.
Amid persistent rumours of friction behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge, Petr Cech has argued that Chelsea’s players should have the right to express their view if they think something is going wrong at the club:
“We had a lot of success thanks to the honesty and open mind everyone has in the dressing room.
"Everybody should have a chance to express an opinion and if the players are not happy, it is not the case that we say 'unlucky mate, we will carry on, you pick yourself up'. No.”
Cech also said that he would love to see Jose Mourinho back at Stamford Bridge, with the Portuguese manager rumoured to be the club’s number one target to replace Rafa Benitez in the summer. The goalkeeper also backed Roman Abramovich’s approach with regards to hiring and firing managers, pointing out Chelsea had won plenty of trophies in recent years.
One manager who is less likely to take over at Chelsea is Stamford Bridge is Fabio Capello, who says he has not been approached by the club, and that he is completely focussed on his current job of attempting to lead Russia to the World Cup in Brazil in 2014.
Demba Ba has said the players are fully behind their manager, and that would be the case whoever was in charge at the club, and that the win over West Brom showed that the team can pick up results despite the turbulent relationship between Benitez and the fans.
Benitez himself has said he is focussing on one game at a time, with Chelsea’s involvement in three competitions meaning they are still playing twice a week. This week Chelsea face Steaua Bucharest in the Europa League and Manchester United in the FA Cup.
On HITC today, Dan Coombs looks at whether Benitez could even end up being hailed as a genius at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are reportedly preparing a £10 million a season contract offer for Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao. The Blues are keen to stave off interest from sides like PSG and Real Madrid in the player. However on HITC today we argue that Robert Lewandowski is the striker that Chelsea should target above all others this summer.
