Chelsea latest: Including Cech injury and Lampard

A round-up of news and views relating to Chelsea over the past 24 hours.

Petr Cech is set to miss out on Chelsea’s clash with QPR this Wednesday after failing to recover from the groin injury that saw him replaced at half time in the win over Everton. Ross Turnbull will likely deputise for the Czech international, with the severity of Cech’s injury as yet unknown. John Obi MIkel missed the game with Everton, but could be fit for Wednesday’s match at Stamford Bridge.

Park Ji-sung remains a doubt for QPR, who have no new injuries after the 3-0 loss to Liverpool at the weekend.

Despite his match-winning brace in the match against West Ham Frank Lampard is no closer to agreeing a new contract with Chelsea, with the midfielder revealing that nothing has been offered to him by the club. Lampard’s current contract only runs until the summer, and Chelsea are believed to be reluctant to offer him an extension longer than one year. Lazio are allegedly the latest club who might be preparing to swoop for the England midfielder.

Lampard also said that he believes Chelsea can still win the title this season, despite currently being eleven points adrift of leaders Manchester United:

“If we concentrate on ourselves, win our games, put a long run together and we can put pressure on Man United, who knows?”

Demba Ba’s proposed move to Chelsea looks unlikely after talks with the player’s representatives and the club on Sunday night were unproductive. Chelsea are reportedly ready to meet Ba’s £7.5 million buy-out clause, but his wage demands might scupper the deal.

PSG have ruled out making a transfer window swoop for Ashely Cole, with sporting director Leonardo saying they have never made any contact with the player.

The agent of Chelsea loanee Kevin De Bruyne has said the player sees his future at Stamford Bridge. De Bruyne has become an important member of Werder Bremen’s first time whilst on loan this season, and there had been suggestions he might leave Chelsea in the summer to ensure first team action.

Finally, 18 year old Nathaniel Chalobah looks set to extend his loan spell at Watford until the end of the season. Chalobah has made 16 Championship starts for Watford already this season, and is eager to continue his development under Gianfranco Zola.
