Manchester United latest: Including Rooney injury and Ronaldo rumours

News, views and rumours relating to Manchester United in the past 24 hours.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will not be disciplined by the Football Association for confronting referee Mike Dean at Old Trafford in the wake of his decision to award Newcastle United their second goal.

United staged a comeback against the Magpies to win the match 4-3 and now sit comfortably 7 points clear at the top of the Premier League after Manchester City lost 1-0 to Sunderland.

Striker Javier Hernandez scored the winning goal in their victory over Newcastle on Wednesday insists he doesn’t regret the chances he missed in the game and pointed to the composure and belief in the team.

“You cannot afford to regret every chance you miss because if you do you will never be concentrated for the next opportunity. You are never going to play the perfect game. You will never score five goals from five opportunities.”

Ferguson spoke after the game about his side’s comeback, stating,

“That was a championship [winning] performance.”

In team news, Wayne Rooney is out of the team that will face West Brom at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The Englishman was ruled out of their previous fixture against Newcastle with knee ligament damaged incurred in training and will not be available for the weekend, and potentially could be out for three weeks.

However, Ferguson expects both Ashley Young and Phil Jones to return to the squad and available for selection for the fixture.

In transfer news, United have sent out of favour Bebe on loan to Portuguese side Rio Ave for the rest of the season in order that he gain more chances of regular first team football.

According to reports, United are on the verge of sealing a £18 million move for Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski.

The Red Devils have been heavily linked with the capture of the Polish international in the run up to the January transfer window.

According to the Metro, United are on high alert, as Cristiano Ronaldo looks set to refuse a contract extension at the Santiago Bernabeu where he moved in 2009 from Old Trafford.

The former United star’s current deal expires in 2015 but both United and French giants Paris Saint-Germain are understood to be interested in luring him away from the Spanish champions.

In others news, former Manchester United defender Henning Berg has been sacked from his position as manager of Blackburn Rovers after just 57 days in charge of the Championship strugglers.
