Speculation has suggested that Jose Mourinho will leave Real Madrid this summer but where might he end up?
Reports coming from Spain have suggested that Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is on his way out of the club this summer. The reports are originating from sources that normally support everything to do with Real Madrid and speculation is now rife over the Portuguese coach’s next move as he refuses to answer questions about his future.
The reports are suggesting that Mourinho has fallen out with Real Madrid President Florentino Perez over the way he handles the running of the team. Mourinho is taking the stance of simply not wanting to add any more fuel to speculation surrounding his future.
“I don't have to say when I spoke with the president, I don't have to say what we spoke about. I don't suppose the president will say anything either. We have a very good relationship. But I am not going to try and add to this situation,” said Mourinho.
If he does leave then there are three immediate clubs that he could take charge of in England; Chelsea, Manchester United, and Manchester City.
Chelsea are the natural choice considering Mourinho’s roots with the club and the fact that he has admitted he loves everything to do with the West London side. Chelsea are looking to appoint a permanent manager again in the summer and Mourinho now stands a great chance of going back to Stamford Bridge in place of interim boss Rafael Benitez.
The other side that could be interested in him are Manchester City. There is growing pressure on Roberto Mancini after the side failed to get out of the group stage of the Champions League for a second season in a row. It would be harsh of the club to axe Mancini but Mourinho is the ideal sort of high profile replacement who would be capable of pushing the side forward.
With Manchester United, he is a strong contender to take over from Sir Alex Ferguson. When will the boss decide to just walk away? If this summer then Jose has to be in with a shout. How events transpire when the two clubs meet in the Champions League may have some effect on this, but it is impossible at this stage to speculate as to what.
Abroad, it is mega-money PSG who are the most likely contenders to snare Mourinho. The chance to become a league champion in France, a fifth country, has to appeal to his ego.
There is always the chance that he will remain Real Madrid boss but something has happened, been talked about or been said that has led to this current situation. Mourinho has said in the past that Real Madrid are a club that are prepared to look after their own above all others so his departure, after a little success, could be imminent.
Clarification is unlikely to appear any time soon but that’s the reason most of us love Mourinho. He keeps everyone on their toes and refuses to cave in to any sort of pressure.
