Tottenham defeated Panathaniakos 3-1 last night, sealing their passage into the knockout stages of the Europa League.
Last season Tottenham took one point from two games against PAOK and bowed out of the Europa League at the group stage. A 3-1 win last night meant there was no Greek Tragedy this time around, with strikes from Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermain Defoe sandwiching an own goal.
With Moussa Dembele rested, youngster Tom Carroll was preferred to Tom Huddlestone in midfield partnering Sandro, making his sixth appearance of the season, and third start - each coming in the Europa League.
The stats show Carroll made more passes than any other midfield player on the pitch (85), with an 88 per cent completion rate, only bettered by Aaron Lennon (91 per cent), who made just 32 passes by comparison.
The 20-year-old also made more interceptions than any other player on the pitch (5), with Kyle Walker closest with four. And that was with being substituted with 15 minutes to go.
Those individual accolades aside, what did fans make of his performance? Are they excited about his prospects or does he still have work to do? We have scoured Twitter to bring a snapshot reaction to his display.
@tom_carroll92 Great game tonight, hope you enjoyed your ovation when you went off. Definitely earned it.
@alexdakid: Tom Carroll is gonna be a really good player!
@ajinkyakale95: Tom Carroll is a fantastic fantastic prospect. Already better than guys like Henderson and Shelvey who get England call-ups. Ahem, Hodgson.
@robburton84: Great performance from tom Carroll tonight. Looks like a real technical player. 1 and 2 touches, both footed. New modric or Carrick?
@0shaun3ssy: Tom Carroll didn't have his best game tonight. I like his game, but I fear if we get Moutinho. Tom is going on Loan.
@g_miller_: Tom Carroll hasn't looked up to this level today. Still young though.
@metcalficus: He's not far away now but give him a year & Tom Carroll will be a perfect replacement for Luka. Class player
@nocapitalletter: Tom Carroll > Andy Carroll
How good can Carroll become? What will his chances be like when Parker returns?
