Team Santander Complete London To Brighton Bike Ride Series For BHF

Team Santander London To Brighton Bike Ride

Santander employees from across the UK joined thousands of cyclists on Saturday to take part in the British Heart Foundation (BHF) London to Brighton Off-Road Bike Ride.

More than 1,200 riders followed a 75 mile route on Saturday 22 September which mixed cycle path, single track cycling and forest paths to help raise £150,000 for the BHF’s vital work.

The off-road version of the BHF’s classic London to Brighton Bike Ride was also attended by members of a VIP group of riders - Team Santander - who completed the third and final event in the inaugural London to Brighton Bike Ride Series. Kevin Boyd, Divisional Managing Director, Santander has led the ten VIP cyclists throughout the bike ride series, which included heart patients, a BHF volunteer, and a committed cyclist who is taking on the London to Brighton challenge for the ninth year.

Boyd and the group kicked off the London to Brighton Series with the London to Brighton Night Bike Ride on 26 May followed by the London to Brighton Ride on 17 June. After crossing the finishing line at the off-road event this weekend, Team Santander have now completed nearly 700 miles of charitable cycling this summer.

Jonathan Elliott, Senior Community Manager at Santander said: 'As well as taking part in the rides and making the journey to the Brighton sea front this year Santander employees have pedalled their way to an impressive £10,000 in fundraising. We’re really proud of their achievements and pleased to have been able to play a part in the BHF’s London to Brighton Bike Ride Series'.

Nancy Prior, Head of Events at the BHF said: 'This year has seen the first ever BHF London to Brighton Bike Ride Series take place and Santander have not only supported these rides with their sponsorship of the BHF cycling programme but have injected their hard leg work and fundraising efforts into making them a huge success. All the money raised from our cycling events goes towards our life-saving work, so it is vital that we continue to receive support from our brilliant participants'.

The BHF is the nation’s heart charity, dedicated to saving lives through pioneering research, patient care, campaigning for change and by providing vital information. The London to Brighton Bike Ride Series is part of a programme of over 30 nationwide cycling events supported by Santander in a three year partnership raising money for the work of the BHF so they can continue to help fight one of the UK’s biggest killers, heart and circulatory disease.
