Whilst some have questioned Messi’s outburst, others have been quick to point to the pressure mounted on the Argentinian’s shoulders at the Nou Camp. Whilst his behaviour may not have been welcome by David Villa, it could be argued that it points to his unwavering commitment to the club and his determination to win at all costs.
One thing’s for sure, the Catalans have remained uncharacteristically quiet on the subject – the Barcelona camp seemingly hope if they ignore the speculation of a rift it will go away.
But with Villa’s position as the club’s traditional number 9 now in jeopardy (they no longer play with a striker) could his on-field spat with their star player hint that a transfer is on the horizon for the Spaniard?
